Environment Bill Debate

Tuesday, 26 January, 2021

Today Jerome spoke as part of the debate on the Environment Bill.

He also referenced the decision to grant a year-long 'derogation' to sugar beet farmers in relation to the use of neonicotinoid pesticides. For full information on the reasons behind this decision, click here. It should be noted that EU law (now adopted in UK law) permits the short-term use of such pesticides in order to protect against disease (in this case the Beet Yellows blight) - and that there are many protections in place for bees and other pollinators.
