I have formally objected to the Marriotts Park Development planning applications (2022/0455, 2025/2876 and 2025/2933) on behalf of constituents.
These developments hinge on the proposed Norwich Western Link — a road that still hasn’t been delivered and remains uncertain. Without it, our local roads simply cannot cope.
We’re already seeing the impact:
- Congestion worsening
- Rat-running through Drayton, Taverham, Ringland, Weston Longville, Hellesdon and Costessey
- Increased safety risks
- Delays to emergency services
Even more concerning — the traffic modelling is outdated. It does not reflect current conditions or the upcoming Easton roundabout closure.
There is also no clear plan for GP capacity or the infrastructure needed to support this level of growth.
This is not sustainable development.
I have urged Broadland District Council to refuse — or at the very least defer — these applications until:
- Proper infrastructure is in place
- Traffic modelling is updated
- A full cumulative impact assessment is carried out
Thank you to Stuart Clancy, Conservative Councillor for Taverham, for his work in highlighting the serious flaws in these proposed developments, with whom I have worked closely on these issues.
Our communities deserve better planning — not more pressure on already stretched roads and services.
