Following my meeting with senior government officials to demand improvements to mobile phone coverage in Broadland and Fakenham, I can now report back on a further meeting with Virgin Media O2. O2 will be turning off 3G around Norwich on 16 July. They have promised me that this will improve coverage for everyone since the spectrum will then be used to improve 2G, 4G and 5G coverage. The small number of customers who have 3G only devices will be contacted directly and offered free or discounted new phones.
I also highlighted the mobile not spots across Norfolk and, particularly the terrible coverage in Brundall and Blofield. O2 has agreed to investigate this and get back to me. In the mean time a new mobile mast site at Pilson’s Green will go live later this year. This will improve both 4G & 5G coverage, which should improve coverage in Brundall. I will keep up the pressure and update you as soon as I hear further.
